An unbelievable 6 days from Missoula, Montana to Helena, Butte and back again. You’ll have the time of your life learning all about the American West. Tours start on Sunday and end Saturday.
Day 1: Arrive in Missoula
Arrive in Missoula. Evening dinner and welcome presentations from Dr. Kelly Dixon, and several of the other tour scholars.
Day 2: Walking Tour Of Missoula
Morning presentation by a professional archaeologist with breakfast, then informative tours of the Historic downtown Missoula. Authentic fresh hand-made Chinese lunch provided. Tours will be lead by local experts, and will include entering sections of the “Missoula Underground.”
Explore this areas unique history as the interface of railroad construction from federal to tribal owned lands. We will look at historical archaeological sites west of Missoula near the towns of Paradise and Plains. Northern Pacific Railroad route. Catered fresh traditional Chinese lunch provided. Evening free time.
Day 4: Butte, Montana
Explore historical archaeological sites East of Missoula, including the Mai-Wah Museum and Chinatown in Butte. Lunch in Butte. Evening at Fairmont Hot Springs, including a presentation by a professional archaeologist.
Day 5: Helena, Montana
Visit the Chinese cemetery, the Montana Historical Society, and discover archaeological sites in the Marysville Chinatown. Each location will have a local expert as your guide. Back in Missoula hotel this night.
Day 6: Artifacts and History in Montana
Visit the University of Montana campus, including the Mansfield Center and other pertinent facilities at the University of Montana. Explore archaeological excavations related to the Buffalo Soldiers at Fort Missoula. Host-provided dinner and ping pong party.
Day 7: Checkout and Missoula Farmers Markets
Visit Missoula’s regionally renowned Downtown Saturday Markets (Farmers Market, People’s Market, and the Clark Fork Market). Hotel Checkout and departure by noon.
