New Local Business Explores Heritage Tourism in Montana
MISSOULA – 你好 (néih hóu) Cantonese, 你好 (nǐ hǎo) Mandarin, and hello (English)
We are excited to announce the launching of a heritage tourism business based in Missoula, Montana, U.S.A. The business is called Origins Montana and is dedicated to taking people on professionally-guided tours of heritage regions and heritage sites. Our pilot season will emphasize Overseas Chinese and Chinese American cultural heritage in western Montana, and we will market the tours to Chinese and Chinese American historical societies and museums. Yet we anticipate that our clients to be citizens from all countries who are interested in experiencing the places and people involved in creating the modern history of the American West. We expect that the tours will attract educated clientele with interests in transnational histories who will take what they learn on the tours and become citizen scientists dedicated to preserving and protecting the world’s cultural heritage. We hope to encourage people from around the world to travel to Montana—and eventually to more areas throughout the U.S. West—to hear and learn, firsthand from professional archaeologists and historians, about the various narratives making up the North American West’s complex cultural heritage. We also think that our Origins Montana excursions will raise the standard for heritage tourism in the region and ultimately better connect tourism and preservation goals.
In the 2015 season we will offer eight one-week tours. Please refer to our website, www.originsmontana.com, for exact tour dates and detailed information.
